PVD Coating for Metal Forming Tools Ultimate wear protection solutions for cutting, sharpening, punching and forming molds.Elevate customer tools to a new level of quality by the BALINIT® product line.
In production, on molds and mold components: cutting, sharpening, punching and forming must be subjected to extremely strong, continuous forces and is the main cause of damage (abrasion, broken, breakage, etc.). However, customers can reduce these risks to their molds and components by using Oerlikon Balzers' BALINIT® coating. As a global technology leader in surface solutions, we can offer you significant advantages with our coating solutions and diffusion processes that will boost the efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and ecological soundness of your applications.

High-tensile steel (High-Speed Steel - HSS) and super-tensile steel (Ultra-High-Strength Steel - UHSS) are increasingly standardized for automotive structural parts to achieve high safety requirements if a collision ever happens. In the process of machining these parts or details, due to the high laterality, extreme stress will act directly on the mold surface, especially at the radius positions (angles, curves, etc.) where it is subjected to heavy loads due to the yield stress characteristics of the metal. In many cases, this is the main cause of the shortening of the life of the mold or the failure of the mold. These problems occur similarly in the cold forming process, when the metal is excessively deformed, the fatigue load of the material will cause the mold to exceed the limit, causing unexpected problems; in addition, cold welding positions are also a cause... As a result, the number of maintenance times increases and the surface quality of the product deteriorates.
BALINIT® LUMENA coating can solve the problems mentioned above. The TiAlN coating is created by technology from Oerlikon Balzers with minimal residual stress significantly reducing wear of the forming mold.
- High hardness
- An optimised hardness to residual compressive stress ratio
- High abrasive wear resistance
- Improved chemical and thermal resistance
- Reduced coefficient of friction
- High achievable coating thicknesses (comparable with CVD) |

BALINIT® FORMERAThe coating solution for Advanced High-Strength Steel forming applications
|
 |
|
 |
Due to regulatory requirements for emissions and increasing passenger safety, vehicles are being made lighter and stronger, so the application of Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) has become popular. In fact, product parts made from this steel are used more and more on new generation vehicles with high durability which poses a challenge to the forming die surface.
Therefore, BALINIT® FORMERA has been developed to adapt to the challenge while ensuring high productivity for forming when creating products made from Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS). BALINIT® FORMERA is a special liquid coating with excellent elasticity and adhesion which can be up to 680% more effective than comparable coatings and is optimal in terms of wear resistance. |
